We've Been Set Up to Fail
Â
The 143 billion dollar diet-industrial complex is financially dependent on our recurring failure and self-loathing.
Diet Culture:
- Creates cycles of yo-yo dieting: Struggling to lose some weight, only to regain it all.
- Means you regain more weight than you lost on your last diet.
- Starves your brain and body of essential nutrients.
- Slows your metabolism by lowering thyroid function.
- Induces irresistible cravings (hello, binging).
- Leverages self-hate by blaming personal weakness for our inevitable failures.
- Creates a chronically dysregulated nervous system (that uses food to cope).
- Creates an unwinnable internal war between the parts of us who want to diet and the parts who know we need to eat.
Take Your Life Back.
Deep beneath the conversation of how much to eat and what-not-to-eat on any “diet” is the truth that a human body needs enough calories to function, and any less sets off primordial alarm bells.
Deep beneath the endless arguments about carbohydrates, fats, and protein is the truth that eating food is a primary way humans self-soothe.
Eating food is comforting. And processed food companies know how to make it extra-comforting-to-the-point-of-irresistable.
Our high-pressure, fast-paced, economy-centric world is pushing us to the brink. Add chronic caloric restriction and forced-exercise to the mix and it’s no surprise that we’ve become more and more cut off from our inner wisdom.
Most of us no longer have adequate tools to alleviate stress without using harmful coping mechanisms, like eating junk food.
It’s not your fault this feels so hard.
Is a Nourished Sanctuary Membership right for me?
- I know what a healthy-enough, evidence-based diet looks like, but I can't stick to it.
- I do well on a new diet plan for a day or two, but then I "lose control."
- I see that crash diets and chronic calorie restriction don't work and I realize that they never will.
- I feel like I'm at war with myself. Part of me wants to be healthy, but another part of me keeps binging.
- Sometimes I wonder if I have to choose between my health, my weight loss goals, and my sanity.
- I can't control how much I eat; sometimes I eat until I feel physically sick.
- I'm preoccupied by thoughts about food, including when and how much I'm "allowed" to eat.
- I eat even when I'm not hungry. Sometimes I can't tell if I'm hungry or not.
- When I feel stressed, I immediately start looking for food to eat.
- I've tried a hundred diets but always fail.
- I don't have enough willpower.
- I just want to be "normal" about food.
- I'm ready to commit to consistent inner work and outer action to transform my relationship with food and my body.
If any of these feel true, there are effective tools here for you. You don't have to struggle alone any longer.

We’ve been sold lies about health and weight loss for decades.
Â
We’ve been told by “experts” that 1,500 calories per day (or less) is enough.
But our bodies know better.
(And, technically, so does science.)
Â
We’ve been told that we aren’t losing weight because we’re lazy, weak, or undedicated.
But we know the truth runs deeper.
Â
We’ve been told that we need stronger willpower, more discipline, and tighter control.
But we know that’s not the kind of life we want to live.
(And it never works for long, anyway.)
The Status Quo Isn't Working
Since you turned 12:
How many times have you skipped a meal even though your body was hungry?
How many times have you forced yourself to exercise even though you felt exhausted?
How many times have you "lost control" and overeaten "forbidden" foods?
How many times have you taken diet or exercise advice from someone who tried to control you with shame?
How many times have you looked in the mirror and bathed yourself in self-loathing?
You deserve better than this.
You can choose to end the war against your body.Â
The battle in your mind can be over.
Come home to your wholeness. Come home to your true Self.
You can learn to make mealtimes a celebration of abundance, an opportunity to joyfully relish the bounty of our Earth.Â
You deserve a life free from obsessing about food.
You deserve a life free from dreading your next binge.
You deserve to live in a body that is celebrated and reflects your inner health and wellbeing.
Â
You deserve to feel deep trust; trust in your body, trust in your appetite, trust in your energy. Trust in receiving nourishment.
Â
I believe with all of my heart that each one of us can come home to our whole Selves and find peace within our bodies and minds. When we have the right tools, steadfast support, good-enough guidance, and consistency, we can learn to let go of the old, broken rules and relax into our inherent wholeness.
We can decide not to waste one more day of our single precious life feeling hungry.Â
Not one more day at war with our body.Â
Not one more meal at war with our appetite.
The sovereignty to choose how to nourish your body is available when you know how your nervous system operates and you know your Self in the highest and deepest sense.
What We Do
Liberating yourself from Diet Culture and choosing to prioritize your physical and mental health means swimming upstream, against the current of society and going against the culture of our own families and dear friends. It makes sense to need and want more support under these circumstances. With a Nourished Sanctuary Membership, we create that support together.
In our Membership Community, we gain clarity about what you DO want while exploring and resolving what gets in the way of aligning actions with goals.Â
We extensively explore the way food interacts with culture, stress, anxiety, depression, overwhelm, and acute & chronic trauma.
By understanding and working with the nervous system, we get to the root cause of these patterns and repair the damage by finding and healing the parts of us who diet, restrict, self-punish, criticize, binge, purge, and eat to soothe.
We learn and practice the best, evidence-based, holistic inner healing tools available; starting with basic Mindfulness and progressing to profound Internal Family Systems (IFS) inspired inner journeys.
We get really curious about why we do what we do with food, and then we take loving action to heal and transform those patterns.
We celebrate each other’s successes and we learn to keep each other company during moments of darkness and struggle.
We troubleshoot nuanced challenges to balance self-care with our complex lives and relationships.
We cultivate inner and outer connections, because deep, lasting healing and transformation happens through loving connection.
We gather for information-packed workshops and enjoy lively discussions about what we learned and how we're applying it to our lives.
If you’re ready to heal your relationships with food and with your body, if you’re ready to do deep self work and return to your one true home (your Self), you’re in the right place and you’re in very good company.
Â
We balance our time between:
Devotional Self-Care
- Focus on making better choices for yourself using the gentle and adaptive DSC pillars of Nourish, Hydrate, Rejuvenate, Play, Feel, and Connect.
- Transform your "healthy" lifestyle habits from a long list of "shoulds" into an enriching, meaningful, delicious, self-sustaining devotional practice.
Courageous Inner Exploration
- A plethora of tools and practices to safely and holistically turn your awareness inward, slowly-and-steadily dismantling centuries of diet culture conditioning.
- Weekly guidance to uncover why these patterns exist and how to successfully choose a better way to live.
- Connection with and support from a like-minded community.
Each week, we’ll come together for three live group meetings:
- One (1) 90-minute group Workshop, which is focused on learning new information about topics relevant to healing and integration, such as: nervous system organization from a Polyvagal Theory perspective, diverse nervous system regulation & coping skills, applied neuroplasticity, habit optimization, heart coherence training, DIY Parts Work, trauma integration, interpersonal boundaries, and more.
- One (1) 60-minute group Guided Embodiment Practice, which puts the information we’re learning in our workshops into action. These embodiment practices build the skill of “turning inward” to successfully navigate (and then transform) your internal world.
- One (1) 60-minute group Open Space for questions, trouble-shooting, and volunteer spot-coaching.
While our purpose is to recover from diet culture and heal your relationships to food and your body, the information and tools we learn and the skills we practice can be applied to any area of your life, from health to relationships to parenting to spirituality.

Membership Design
This Membership is designed as an approximately six-month journey. Every six-months, the content will restart from the beginning.
The information and practices in earlier modules does build as the weeks and months progress. However, the practices and workshops are informative and engaging in any order, though a few workshops are considered “required” for all new Members (those recordings will be available in the Community space).
It may seem kind of weird and clunky, but I’ve designed Nourished Sanctuary this way for a few important reasons:
- In every course I’ve completed, I often circle back to the content from the beginning and hear it as if for the first time. Having completed the entire arc of learning, I am (finally) able to contextualize and assimilate the information in a more meaningful way. Often, I think: I want to redo the entire course again! But by that time, I no longer have access to the teachers to (finally) ask meaningful questions, engage with the community, and do deeper work. I wanted to design Nourished Sanctuary in a way that allows for cyclical learning. You can do one cycle to learn the tools and move on, or you can enjoy several cycles, spiraling into deeper layers of embodied understanding with each revolution.Â
- I want to expand, refine, and distill this content as we go. I’m excited for us to engage, learn together, and shape and reshape these tools to meet your needs.
- You can quit whenever you want or need to. Maybe it felt like the right time to start, but suddenly a life emergency came up that will derail you for 3-months. Simply cancel your Membership and come back when you’re settled and ready. No big financial commitments, no pressure.
- A lot of courses and memberships are sold with false promises of radical transformation in 30, 60, 90, or some other equally unrealistic number of days. The pressure of these quick, profit-driven courses does not facilitate genuine transformation, nervous system rehabilitation, or meaningful connections. I wanted to create an environment where our time together feels luxuriously unpressured. You can stay as long as you like and leave whenever you’re ready.
What We Don't Do
In our Membership Community, we celebrate food, but we don’t dive too deeply into the nuts-and-bolts of what or how much to eat (you'll learn how to let your body decide that).
We cover the bare-minimum-basics of Whole Plant Food nutrition, and you get to choose how closely your body wants to match those criteria. If you’re familiar with my YouTube videos, you already have access to the evidence-based basic lifestyle theory that I practice and will teach here. (The Lifestyle Basics)
Our Membership space isn’t focused on exactly what you “should” or “shouldn’t” eat. We do not use meal plans or menus because these are tools that create more separation between you and the wisdom of your body's natural appetite.Â
I strongly encourage you to explore the excellent evidence-based resources section on nutritionally-adequate whole plant food diets that I have learned from. (Check out my Bookshelf Resources page.)
In this space, you choose the eating pattern and flexibility that's optimal for you and aligns with your personal values and goals.
Our work covers everything that gets in the way of that alignment.Â
Sometimes, all we need to take really good care of ourselves is information. If all you need is information, my YouTube channel and Recommended Resources page have you covered!
But if your body & mind have been hijacked by diet culture and you learned to use food to cope with daily stress (or unresolved trauma) like I did, information isn’t enough.
In this case, deeper healing work is essential.
